Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1-2 tbsp sugar (1/4 cup if making shortcake)
- 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
- 1/2-1 cup of buttermilk
Alternates
- If buttermilk is not being used, sub two more tsp baking powder for the baking soda.
- A total of 1/2 cup fat is needed and it can be almost any low-water fat.
Directions
- Mix the dry ingredients
- Cut butter and shortening into dry mixture, the final texture should be sandy
- Mix liquid in and finish combining by hand
- Bake at 350°F for 8-12 minutes until golden brown
